They all can do extreme damage. This game is all about skill. How you build your character.

All summed up nicely.

I'm a W/M, level 11 (still in the old city area), but so far I'm using Axes and any healing spells that are HoT. Including the enchantment that auto regenerates.

Just find that personally amazing, large amount of armor to shrug off damage, and the ability to heal the damage as you take it. I have yet to fight a lot of magic user NPC's so I don't know how the build will work later.

i think ele/mes has got to be a pretty kick ass build, it doesnt self heal but you can stop guys and then bombard them with fire attacks that do a crap load of damage

Nope, the Marathon Man is the most powerful build.

Warrior/Ranger with
Rush
Sprint
Dodge
Escape
Charge
Strider's Reflexes
Pin Down
Barbed Trap

He can run better than anyone, and cripples those racing against him!

Seroiously, build some characters and learn the game. There is no magic build, and no "best" or "uber" character. There are refund points for a reason, so you can play with your build. You'll settle on a style after playing a bit, then it'll be easier to provide useful advice.

There is no "most powerful build". Everything is so well balanced that each class has stengths and weaknesses.

My favorite? I like my Mesmer/Elementalist. Fast casting allows me to churn out some of the most devastating (but slow casting) Elementalist spells in a hurry, while I can still do massive damage over time with Illusion magic.

Ranger/Elementalist does amazing damage.

I am using a fire/marksman build. My rare bow has a damage base of fire, meaning its damage is increased by the "conjure flame" enchantment. This fire-based enchantment also procs twice when using the "Dual Shot" skill. Unlike any of the preparation skills, this damage enchantment lasts for 60 seconds which makes it very reliable.

"Conjure Flame" isn't the only good reason to spec your points into fire, either. You also get two *very* powerful AOE spells called Fire Storm and Lava Front. These spells can stack together for an incredible amount of damage. The fire tree also has two great direct-damage spells called Flare and Fireball. While Fireball is a little heavy on the energy cost, Flare does great damage for its low cost and is spammable.

The War/Monk seems to have the most powerful attraction though but that's not really what this is about. Still, it'll probably win the most played combo class.

The best build i have found to aron 7 to 8 is a Nec / Ele or a Nec / warrior
The nec / Warrior with a sword and shield destoryed stuff very very fast but only if there was one to two mobs. Now the Nec / Ele was fast not as fast as Nec / Warrior but fast but could solo 4 to 5 average mobs same lvl. Now i Played the oppiste side of it and you can kill 3 mobs but it takes about 10 mins and you have to spam that heal the the warrior has. In the Warrior builds i have tried i still have not been able to Kill 5 mobs. I do it on a regular basic (only pre - seering ) with my Nec / fire ele. The AoE's a health steal spells are devestaing havnt tried this in PvP but im sure it is a good damage build for that to

Even though it's a template, a tweaked Shock Sniper has one of the highest damage outputs in the game.

Another fun build is Flaming Raging Warrior [I forgot the name]. Basically, it's a W/E that combines Mark of Rodwort [w/ Lesser Glyph of Energy], Conjure Flame [to keep him burning], and Battle Rage to fuel powerful adrenaline skills [doesn't cost energy used in casting the first three spells]. The most common use Sever/Gash or Dismember/Cripple to add even more degen to the burning or keep them in range, respectively. The last two are Sprint and one more adrenaline skill [Final Thrust is not recommended].

of course a War/monk plays out likea paladin in any other game. its a potent combo, (not the stongest in game I bet but still a good one) cant argue with good dps from warrior skills combined with healing power makes for a solid mix.

Tweak the Marathon Man with some evade/block stances, and you got a certified Crags Flag Runner.

My personal favourite is Ranger/Mesmer.

Using skills like Imaginary Burden can give you lots of extra shots before the enemy you're attacking gets anywhere near you. * Feast (I forget the name ) is an amazing skill when you're low on health.

I think the classes are pretty balanced. I don't think there are any broken classes.

I have seen the comments on Warrrior/Monk. I don't think they are any more powerful than other classes. I do think they are a class that allows a player with average game skills to play at an above-average level easier. I think they are more forgiving of errors. You can survive at a higher level of play for a long time using basic target/default action keys.

I have played W/Mo, E/Mo, and Mes/R. W/Mo I would have to say is a fairly solid character build. You take a lot of beating and deal constant damage at the same time. It's just I think W/Mo doesn't suit my playstyle of running in brute force. The strategy for W/Mo is quite cookie cutter I believe. I really like Mes/R. A few key skills that I really like to use and probabl frustrate players is the ability to slow their movement speed, remove enchantments, and distracting shots to interrupt and disable any skill being used for 20 seconds along with skills that make casting take longer. It's fun in PvP battles when I try to see W/Mo try to raise a party member and then use distracting shot since you have a larger time frame to reflex.

I think when your building your character the first thing to consider is if your building it for optimum PvE or PvP. Some high end PvE builds are much lower on the scale in PvP.
